Calling all filmmakers - 10 years of TEDxAmsterdam through your lens

Friday 13 July 2018

On 29 November, TEDxAmsterdam celebrates its tenth anniversary! Birthdays are always a nice occasion to reflect, but also an opportunity to ponder the future. To help us look back on the life-changing, inspiring and memorable journey we’ve had so far, we are inviting all creatives and filmmakers – be it students, accomplished directors or avid film hobbyists – to capture their view of 10 years of TEDxAmsterdam through their lens!

Create a concept worth sharing

Get your creative juices flowing! What do you think of when you hear TEDxAmsterdam, 10 years, past, future?

Need some inspiration?

TEDxAmsterdam is about ideas worth spreading (and doing) – ideas for community, social cohesion and innovation, for education, for our planet, and for humanity. It's about connecting people and bringing them together to create change.

Perhaps consider the TEDxAmsterdam talks you enjoy (or discover some of your favourites this week) and explore where those ideas are now – what impact have they had? This might form the basis of your idea.

Your films/documentaries should ideally have a clear and logical connection to TEDxAmsterdam credo – 'Ideas Worth Spreading' and hint at or reflect on our history. So, dive into our last ten years – learn about the diversity of speakers and performers that have taken to our stage – and weave that into your story.

You might find useful information on our Youtube channel, or via our old websites.

The best concepts will be selected by, and produced with the help of our partner, online video agency Level V! Think real Hollywood style support: script supervision, content guidance, film equipment, filming and post-production facilities!

Managing Partner of Level V, Mie Dries, says:

"It's all about creativity and craftsmanship. Be inspired by modern filmmakers but also learn from the very rich history of filmmaking that started in the early 1900's."

"Do not try to capture our whole history, but stick with your own view and turn it into a strong compelling story. And remember to grab the attention of the viewer in the first few seconds!”

The final output will be shared with the Level V and TEDxAmsterdam network, giving your creative idea a platform! It’ll be like singing in front of a big audience at the birthday bash of the year!

How to take part

Send us your concept by 22 August in any format that supports your idea best (words, pictures, video…) via this form. Make sure to provide as much detail as possible, and please add a link in the form to any images, videos or additional material you wish to include.

In the first week of September you will hear from us about whether your concept made the cut and will get produced! The results will then be premiered on 15 November at an impressive Amsterdam venue.

The films will also be shown at this year’s TEDxAmsterdam event on 29 November at the Stadsschouwburg.

The process

If you're film concept is selected, here's a look at the key steps Level V will take you through to develop it.

Phase 1 (first 2 weeks of September)

  • refining the concept, together with Level V
  • scripting – you'll write the script, Level V will give feedback and help to improve

Phase 2 (September / October)

  • production – Level V assists with shooting days, supplying equipment and crew

Phase 3 (until early November)

  • post-production – if needed, Level V will provide editing equipment and support (based on experience and editing skills of the filmmaker).

What are you waiting for?!

Join us in celebrating 10 years of TEDxAmsterdam; 10 years of ideas, stories, tears and laughter, and of course…10 years of ideas worth spreading!
